About the Pediatric Regional Anesthesiology Fellowship

The Pediatric Regional Anesthesiology Fellowship is a one-year program offered at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the UW School of Medicine. This fellowship focuses on assessment and perioperative care of infants, children and adolescents and offers the training required to develop clinical excellence in pediatric regional anesthesia. Our program graduates acquire the skills needed to establish and/or lead a pediatric regional anesthesia program. 

  • Develop skills and knowledge base in advanced pediatric regional anesthesia techniques. 
  • Provide opportunities and mentored support for clinical research in pediatric regional anesthesia.  
  • Acquire the leadership skills needed to establish and/or lead a pediatric regional anesthesia program.

Faculty fellows receive an Acting Instructor title for their 12-month training appointment. Our faculty fellows spend 40% of their time devoted to clinical regional anesthesia training, 40% of their time working as a supervising attending, and the remaining 20% on non-clinical academic time.

Clinical experience 

Ability to practice independently, supervise trainees and nurse anesthetists in an academic tertiary care pediatric hospital.  

Competitive Salary: Faculty fellow salaries begin at $120,000/year. Individuals who have already completed an ACGME fellowship prior to entering in their non-ACGME fellowship begin at $130,000/year   

Academic Allowance: Faculty fellows in the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine receive an annual academic allowance of $1,500. 

Moonlighting Opportunities: Extra internal clinical shifts above and beyond fellowship commitment may be approved at the discretion of the program director for eligible fellows.

Eligibility 

Applicants must have successfully completed an ACGME fellowship in pediatric anesthesia (or equivalent training). International medical graduates must have passed all three USMLE steps.

Interested applicants must submit the following documents in order to apply: 

  • Three current reference letters, including one from the residency program director or current director 
  • Copy of medical school diploma 
  • Copy of anesthesia degree (if applicable) 
  • Current medical license 
  • USMLE (all three steps) 
  • ECFMG documentation (if applicable) 
  • Documentation supporting citizenship status (if applicable) 

The deadline for applications to our faculty fellowship program is December 1 for positions beginning in the fall of the following year.
