UW Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine to jointly host 2027 WSSA Spring Meeting

We are pleased to announce that our department will be the joint host with the Washington State Society of Anesthesiologists for the 2027 WSSA Spring Meeting.

The conference will take place March 20–21 at the University of Washington Husky Union Building.

Dr. Deepak Sharma, vice chair for faculty affairs and development and outgoing WSSA president, described the partnership as a “win-win,” noting that it is “important to build stronger collaboration between academia and private practices at a time when the specialty of anesthesiology is facing unique challenges while also being a highly sought-after specialty by medical students.”

WSSA members from across the state will gather to explore the evolving role of anesthesiologists both within and beyond the operating room. In addition to sessions on practice management, career development and clinical updates, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops focused on regional anesthesia and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), led by UW faculty.

According to Dr. Sharma, who is co-chair of the program planning committee, the highly interactive event will cover “a broad range of emerging and controversial topics, and offer networking opportunities for attendees.” Resident physician Dr. Gusti Fatima is also part of the program planning committee, helping to develop a novel conference format.

We are proud to partner with WSSA and look forward to welcoming anesthesiologists from across Washington to our campus. Additional details, including the agenda, speakers and registration information, will be shared by WSSA in the coming months.
