Dr. David R. Wright appointed chief of service for Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine at Harborview

It is with great pleasure that we announce that after a committee search, Dr. David R. Wright has been approved by the Medical Executive Board and Board of Trustees as chief of service for Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine at Harborview Medical Center.

David is a professor in the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine and an adjunct professor of neurological surgery at the University of Washington. He has been serving as the interim chief of service for the Harborview Medical Center Division of Anesthesiology. Dr. Wright brings over two decades of leadership in academic anesthesiology with a clinical focus on neuroanesthesia and perioperative neuroscience.

Dr. Wright received his Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Southampton Medical School, UK, and completed specialist training in anesthesia through the Imperial School of Anesthesia in London. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Anesthetists in 1997.

His clinical expertise encompasses anesthesia for complex neurosurgical and neurointerventional procedures, including intraoperative neuromonitoring, traumatic brain injury, and cerebrovascular surgery. Through his time at the UW Medicine, Dr. Wright has been deeply committed to creating a safe clinical environment that is inclusive and patient centered.

Dr. Wright has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and numerous book chapters in the fields of anesthesiology and neuroscience. He has also contributed to national guidelines and educational initiatives through leadership roles in the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC) and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), including service on committees for clinical affairs, education, and quality improvement.

A dedicated educator, Dr. Wright has received multiple awards for excellence in teaching and service at Harborview Medical Center and remains actively involved in mentoring anesthesiology residents and fellows.
