We are proud to announce that Dr. Jo Davies has been honored with the SEA/Duke Award for Excellence and Innovation in Anesthesia Education, a prestigious recognition presented annually by the Society for Education in Anesthesia (SEA).
Established in 1996 through a generous gift from the Department of Anesthesiology at Duke University, this award celebrates individuals who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to teaching and made significant contributions to advancing anesthesia education for medical students, residents, and faculty. Each year, SEA awards a $5,000 grant to an educator whose work exemplifies excellence and innovation in our specialty.
Dr. Davies has been a cornerstone of SEA’s global health efforts for nearly two decades. As Chair of the SEA Committee on International Outreach (2009–2019) and Director of the SEA Health Volunteer Overseas Fellowship program since 2012, she has helped launch and support 98 anesthesia residents on transformative educational fellowships in low-resource settings—experiences that have shaped these physicians into educators, leaders, and scholars.
Her commitment extends beyond program leadership. From 2010 to 2023, Dr. Davies served as site director in Malawi, guiding five graduating cohorts and directly improving patient care in one of the world’s most resource-constrained environments. This work exemplifies her dedication to advancing education and clinical excellence globally.
Dr. Davies joins a distinguished group of educators recognized for their passion for teaching and lasting impact on the field. Jo, you inspire us all to be better, do better, and give the best of ourselves to make the world better for our patients, trainees, systems, and profession.
Congratulations, Dr. Davies, on this extraordinary achievement!
